Heard a gag or reference on the pod that didn't make sense to you at first ? Read on....
"It's Gibbo's favourite time of year, the Abu Dhabi T10"
Gibbo watched a couple of games while isolating with Covid in 2021, which means it's now his favourite brand of cricket.
"My husband, Alfie Ogborne"
Shep was chatting to Alfie at the bar in Mambo's after the annual dinner in 2024. Both had their tuxedos on. A slightly inebriated lady asked if we had just got married, as we were looking so smart. We decided to agree.
"The Roelof van der Merwe Pavilion"
Shep's self-built man cave in his garden, named after the greatest player in the history of the game. To everyone's surprise it's still standing after 5 years, and the nerve centre for the pod. Contains so many signed shirts and other memorabilia, that wall-space has run out. Chilled cider available from a well-stocked fridge behind the Brian Rose bar.
"Summoned to the Headmaster's Office"
Being interviewed by Gibbo after a particularly poor day's play. Usually reserved for Jason Kerr or Andy Hurry.
"Somerset's Official Mascot, Don Topley"
That Surrey game was heading for a nailed-on draw, until Toppers popped in to say hello and we took 7/14 and won.
"Victory Nandos"
Tom Curran was spied by Sheps nipping out of the ground after the aforementioned Surrey game to pick up a Deliveroo Nandos, which he had no doubt planned on eating in celebration of Surrey securing the draw and the County Championship.
"Miggy P's Gap Year"
Workhorse South African seam bowler Migael Pretorius was here, there, and everywhere during his 2024 stint with us. Shep suspected he was off backpacking in Tibet half the time.
"It's a Dragon"
The club seem determined to maintain (incorrectly) that the club emblem is a Wyvern. It is not. It is a Dragon. A Wyvern has 2 legs and bat-like wings, whereas a Dragon has four distinct legs, and entirely separate wings protuding from it's back. The Wyvern is the symbol of Wessex, whereas the Dragon is the symbol of Somerset. This is source of petty exasperation to Sheps and Gibbo in particular.
